Tech Editing Services

My overall goal when tech editing your pattern is to assist you in having a pattern that is easy to read with no assumption instructions. My specialty is tech editing fashion and home accessories that may or may not contain simple lace, cables, stranded colorwork, and/or textures.

Some Examples of Simple Are (not exhaustive):

  • A garter stitch triangle shawl with yarn over increases and a lace panel at the bottom.

  • A “jazzed up vanilla sock” with a stitch pattern on the front and stockinette on the back and bottom of the foot.

  • A cowl that has sections of corrugated ribbing, lace, and a textured stitch such as seed stitch.

  • A cabled or lace scarf.

  • A stranded colorwork cowl or sock.

I’m also willing to assist with the creation (or updating) of a style sheet and/or pattern layout template.

As your Tech Editor, I will:

  • Ensure that your pattern is consistent in style with easy to read formatting.

  • I will ensure your pattern is consistent with it a style sheet (If Provided)

  • Check your math including stitch counts, repeats, any pattern shaping, and measurements.

  • Compare charts to written instructions and/or visuals like pictures or sketches of finished object will be needed if no written instructions are provided. (Optional upon request during consultation)

  • Review photos, sketches, charts (if any), and schematics to ensure that directions given result in the finished object desired.

  • Please be aware that I am not a Copy Editor. I will read over descriptions and romance text to ensure they match the pattern however I will not be checking for grammar, spelling, or punctuation. If it’s glaring (ex. the wrong type of where/wear or their/they’re/there is used) I will make a note of it for you.

I am happy to make suggestions in the areas above and to collaborate with you to create a polished and professional pattern. I will not change your pattern but indicate discrepancies, inconsistencies, and provide suggestions through an annotated PDF.

Currently, I’m offering my services at a flat rate dependent on the type of the accessory ranging from $30-$70. More details about my rates can be found on The Process page.
