Me holding a chinchilla after a library program.

Hello and welcome to Tech Edits by Whitney, thank you for coming to find out more about me and the services I provide.

Me as a librarian

I absolutely love my day job which is working to provide programs, outreach, and readers advisory to children ages 0-11. Yep, I work in the Children’s department of my local library. I’ve worked in libraries since 2013 and obtained my Master of Library and Information Science in 2016. One of the many things I love about working in libraries is that I can create services, programs, and resources for a community. My job calls for me to be a problem solver, a project manager, detail- and service-oriented, methodical at times, and a researcher, but always with the focus being on how can this help the patron and/or community.

Many aspects of librarianship that I love correlate to what I love about knitting and technical editing. My curious nature loves that there is always something to learn and to research. I watch knitting classes and tutorials like they’re a popular binge-worthy tv series. I love diving in to try to figure out the how and why something works in knitting whether it’s a technique, fiber and yarn information, construction, or modifications. My mom (who is a gifted quilter) once told me there are no mistakes in quilting (insert knitting) just design opportunities which is my inspiration behind problem solving when I either make a mistake while knitting or I want to modify a pattern for my personal use.

Knitting Background

I come from a family of makers but I am the only knitter. I learned how to knit in 2005 while on a road trip with a couple of floor mates from my residence hall. I would occasionally pick it up but I wasn’t obsessed like I am now. It wasn’t until October 2016, when I took a Craftsy class and made my first lace project that I was smitten and knitting infused itself into many areas of my day to day life. Ever since, I’ve enjoyed learning all I can and pushing my comfort zone. My favorite types of projects are simple projects, sometimes having a wow factor, sometimes comforting in their repetitiveness, and sometimes both.

Other Loves

When I’m not at work or knitting, I enjoy reading, crocheting, and playing video and computer games. My favorite genres to read are mystery, romance, and fantasy.
